MARYBEL RODRIGUEZ: It’s time for another new edition of Taste of the Town, where we feature restaurants from safely outside. And a hidden gem in Coconut Grove that has been in business for 10 years used the pandemic downtime to create a whole new vibe and a new menu.
FRANCES WONG: CBS 4’s Lisa Petrillo takes us to the lush and tropical eatery called Peacock Garden.
LISA PETRILLO: It’s the ultimate in alfresco dining here at Peacock Garden in Coconut Grove. This well-known hidden gem has been a go-to for locals for the past 10 years. When COVID-19 forced restaurants to shut down last year, owner Lalo Durazo revamped and reimagined the eatery in every way, starting with the famous garden. You couldn’t have more garden space. Garden is in the name.
LALO DURAZO: Looking at how we can improve it, we got carried away. And we said, you know what, let’s just close and do a whole renovation. So what you see is a totally different restaurant than the restaurant that was here for the first 10 years.
LISA PETRILLO: Outside, it’s lush and tropical. And inside dining, thanks to the new garage doors, has transformed into one flowing open-air space.
LALO DURAZO: So now we bring the inside out and the outside in. And you can be inside, but really, it’s like being outside because it’s so open.
